Plastic or Styrofoam?

I just went into the office breakroom to get a bottle of water. As I reached for the 1/2 liter plastic bottle I could almost hear my sister Ashley saying "you shouldn't drink bottled water when you've got perfectly good tap water just a few feet away." So I deciced to get it from the tap today.

But as I reached for the styrofoam cups we have stocked next to the sink another voice popped into my head. This time it was a co-worker who had recently lectured me about how using styrofoam cups was environmentally irresponsible.

So which is worse, plastic or styrofoam?

Well--they say you're supposed to bring your OWN plastic reusable bottle from home and use that =).

Both are bad. The only responsible option is a chilled aluminum can of black acid. Enjoy.

(Who says it ain't easy being green?)

I'm all for the reusable bottle... but if that's not an option, in my opinion, who cares which you use. I have to say that I have been more aware of where I dispose of the water bottle or styrofoam cup... but really it's not our fault our companies provide this stuff... we don't even have drinking fountains anymore.

Everything is evil. Which is why a perfect world according to liberal environmentalist tree-hugging hippies would have absolutely nobody in it.

I always wonder which is worse to drop into your campfire---the plastic or the styrofoam?

By the way, my question was a serious one. Which is more environmentally damaging, a recyclable plastic water bottle or a styrofoam cup? I'm too lazy to do the research, but I'm kinda curious to know the answer.

I say the styrofoam is worse. Certain water companies are making bottles that use less plastic now. But, yes, bringing your own refillable water bottle is the best. Oh, and I know the bottled water always says "do not reuse this bottle" but I think that's just because they want you to use another one. If you only have the option of a bottle of water and a styrofoam cup, go with the bottle of water and then refill it when you're done.

Well, water bottles are recyclable and Styrofoam isn't but it's still a tough choice. And I must admit that we ran out of water at work recently (the big cooler kind) and so I haven't been drinking anything because the stuff out of the tap tastes absolutely disgusting. Not tap water gross, but nasty old plumbing gross. I do reuse the same cup though when we do have water. But I'm glad I'm getting into your head a bit :)
